What is the correct spot on the trigger to place the weight bar when measuring an air pistol? Is there an official rule printed anywhere on this. I had my trigger weighed at my first air pistol match and felt that the offical was placing the weight right on the tip of the trigger as opposed to the center where the center grove was. I didn't think that was correct but could not say much because I had nothing to back it up. I will be getting my own weights soon and want to adjust the trigger properly using the correct method and then want to be able to defend it with chapter and verse from an offical publication if need be.

My copy of the official rules says to measure in the center of the trigger. Barrel to be vertical.
You might want to pick up a copy of the rules. But remain flexible because very few ranges do everything by the book. Most places just try to put on a decent match where everyone shoots under reasonably similar conditions.
I agree, though, that trigger checking should be precise and correct. Even so, it will be done using different devices that may not be calibrated properly, and by people with somewhat shakey hands.
I keep my trigger at 600 grams to reduce the possibility of rejection, but...

ISSF Special Technical Rule 4.1.11.1 states:-
"The weight of the trigger pull must be measured carefully, with the test weight suspended near the middle of the trigger and the barrel held vertically (see Figure 1). The minimum weight of the trigger pull must be maintained throughout the competition. A maximum of three attempts to lift the weight properly should be allowed."

The rule is .5 the width of the trigger while the barrel is vertical and with air guns, while the gun is charged. Three attempts to pass allowed. The rule is in Sec. D UIT Special Technical Rules 4.1.11 thru 4.1.11.3. You can go to the UIT web site for the complete set of rules online or they may be purchased from USA Shooting with the US added or modified rules included.

One additional comment on the trigger weighing. The trigger weights must have a rubber or metal knife edge to rest on the trigger blade. A roller or round configuration is not allowed.
All of this information is in that USA Shooting Rule book.
