Non Shooting Hand

In the photos that Warren was kind enough to post, it appeared that many (perhaps the majority?) of the (male) air pistol shooters reach across their bodies and hook their (non-shooting hand) thumbs in the waistband of their trousers, at about the position of their belt buckles. It appeared that a fewer number of shooters placed their non-shooting hands in their trouser pockets.
Is the former position currently considered "better"?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

For consistency, yes. If you change your pants, you change where your non shooting hand hangs (IE going from jeans to khakis). By hooking into the waistband it's more consistent.

Body shape and stance have a lot to do with how you should anchor your non-shooting hand. It does have to be consistent, but within reason. I use a pocket, and sure, it's not always exactly the same place, but neither is my stance exactly the same every time. I line up my body so my natural lift is on target, and the place I put my feet today may not be the same as tomorrow. It will certainly change through the match as some muscles get tired.
In short, there's no hard and fast rules. I'm sure if and when we post photos from the World Cup (and hopefully the Olympics) you'll see just as much variation on the line between shooters.
