Youth Target Pistol

I have an IZH-46, but it is too heavy for my son. Tried a C02 Crosman, trigger sucks. Looking for ideas from you who have been down this road. Something with smaller grip, light weight, easy to cock, decent trigger and accuracy. You know, a gun he can score with well enough to keep him excited. Anyone know of IZH-53M? Thanks for any help you can offer guys.

If you can find one used, the Pardini K90 is a really nice youth 10m match pistol. It weighs less than two pounds and is CO2 powered. It came with a small ambi grip, but K60 grips fit it just fine if you want to upgrade later. The trigger is very good and adjustable. It also has dry fire capabilities.

The Tau-7 is light enough and has plenty of adjustment. My daughter shot it at 10.

Hi, I have just bought an IZH 53M. - Grips fit both my 11 and my 13 year old (and me). It is a very good pistol for the money - trigger is adjustable to give acceptable let off. The whole thing needs taking apart and cleaning when you get it. Sights are fully adjustable. Down side is that it is a recoiling spring piston - this may or may not be an issue. I can not yet comment on accuracy as I've not tried it on the range. Back garden effort shows it will easily hold in the black.
As a cheap starter pistol I think it is a good buy.

The lightest 10 meter pistol I have shot is the Gamo Compact. The price is a little high now, but it is a great gun for someone that needs light weight. The Beeman P3 is light as well, but more difficult than the Compact to charge.

I was talking to Sandy Santibanez, a certified shooting coach that helped his 17 year daugther to a 2nd place in this years nationals in sport pistol. He said that unless the child is advanced in his physical development one must exercise caution in introducing pistol shooting at too young an age. They can develop an elbow problem if they are physically too young. Twelve seems to be a more appropriate age for pistol shooting. If they do shoot at a younger age he suggested not shooting longer then 15 minutes at a time.
