Specs
from your feet to the target face 10 meters or about 33'. Target height, Bullseye @ 55".
table height about 30" (see the BB about table height.) Pellet catcher, see plink, there are many on the market. Your big danger is with lead poisoning, so don't treat this lightly.
Lighting see the bb about lighting. I use a halogen world lamp on a stand.
Also see plink for their home ranges suggestions.
Have fun.

If you use a "silent" trap with Duct Seal, you will reduce your lead exposure to the bare minimum as there is no pellet splatter.

I use an even less expensive, silent solution. I have a copier paper box stuffed with old towels and backed with (at a 45 degree angle) a piece of plywood (just for additional safety). I have also used balled up newspaper (one sheet at a time) which works fine, but the paper eventually gets torn into small pieces and makes a mess. The box is positioned so I shoot into the end of it with the pellets traveling lengthwise.
The pellets hit those old towels and stop inside the box. Occasionally, a pellet will fall back out the front by rolling out underneath the target.
I have never had a pellet reach the plywood, and since the pellets are decelerated nicely by the towels, I doubt that I have a lead problem at all.

I used a cheepo beeman style trap and
had a lot of problems with bounce
and splatter. But, once I stuffed
a rolled up towel in the back
it has worked perfect. The
magnum air rifle tears the towel up a
bit so I only use it for sighting in.
The pistol however doesn't hurt the
towel and I must have 4 thousand
shots into it now with no damage.
It usually stops the pellets so
well that the pellet looks unfired
when I clean the trap out.

If you want a safe and quite range than go with the RIKA. The new back stop is far more then Warren ever said. And the trap really traps and holds. To empty just pull out the drawer to the side, how easy can it get. The electric target carrier means never breaking your position to see your hit, score or even change targets can be done one handed so you don't change your grip.
It's the only way to go and hey it's Christmas so put it on your list.

AP range lighting and layout requirements

I'm setting up a range in my basement and would like to try to duplicate an "official" range. Thanks in advance!

Can I suggest that you look at the ISSF Technical Rules on the link below.
You will need to look at all of section 6.3 for the general layouts etc. Rule 6.3.15.4 and its sub-sections deal with the lighting.
