Does anyone have any bad
experiences with seals on the Compact? How long did they last? Are they easy to
replace? Opinions on this economy pistol in general would be greatly
appreciated. I am thinking of buying one.

My first Gamo
Compact came from a gun show at St. Louis. It was used, but in apparent good
condition. I used that pistol a lot. And even Had Seaton Thomas fit the grips to
me. Played with it with pistol scope on it, by adding a scope base to the top of
the barrel shroud. Then I shot it a lot, because the accuracy from a rest, with
the scope was simply amazing.
Sjot it for about two years, and one day the
trigger spring holder inside the grip broke. Called Gammo in Florida. On his
advise I sent them the pistol, $10,00, and a description of the problem. Nice
guy to talk to at Gamo. When he got my letter, he asked if I was an attorney, I
replied that I was unable to qualify as an attorney, because my parents were
married. (Sorry good lawyers, just a joke, and to the bad ones, I am too
kind).
Bottom line, with no proof of purchase, no original box, or any of the
requirements some place on their warranty policies, they sent me a brand new
pistol. Even let me keep the custom fitted grips, and included new grips on the
replacement.
NEVER had any problems with seals. Never had any problems
except as described above.
The triggers are not as good as the IZH, for
instance, and as far as I know there is not much you can do to them, except
clean up the surfaces a little and apply a little lube.
I do not care for
scopes of pistols, most of the time. I took the time and trouble to scope the
Gamo Compact, because it had a front sight that was too narrow for my taste.
Odly enough the rear sight is fairly good, and had a width adjustment(read the
manual). So, being the imaginative person that I can be, I cut a piece of the
black part of a strip of 35mm film. Cut it straight and to the same height as
the original front sight, and to a width of 5mm. Then with a drop of glue and
some tweezers, glued the piece to the rear of the front sight, taking care to
center it. Then I adjusted the rear sight width. What a difference.
For a
pistol in that price range, and even some more expensive pistols with similar
power plants, the Gamo Compace is probably my favorite. This would include the
P-3, the P-2 at a higher price. The Gamo will knoc over the rams at 18 yards,
and is a wonderful pistol to shoot to appreciate the match triggers on the more
expensive 10m pistols.
Respectfully,
Bubba

:My Compact went
back for seals 3 times in two years. Others I've known either lasted forever or
were just as bad. Kind of a crap shoot IMHO. Every time they went it was right
in the middle of the league. (repair was $5/one week but still a pain!)
