New IZH46M. How to Maintain?

Posted by Rob on December 26, 2001 at 10:17:23:
The manual was too cryptic for much help. The rest of my guns get better care than most any other machine I own. Is there a recommended regimen for cleaning and lubing that applies to this gun? Have read that overlubing is as bad as not lubing, so when, how much and where on the gun to lube?
Question two deals with replacement wear parts. Apparently a rebuild kit comes with gun (haven't opened that part yet - too busy shooting!!). Where to get other replacement parts? Importer in Florida?
Thanks for any info. This is an excellent forum to learn about the sport.

The IZH-46M doesn't require much for maintenance. The seals and pivot points should be lubed periodically. The barrel can also be cleaned occasionally.
As long as the seals are properly lubricated they will last a long time. There are 5 seals on the gun.
The piston seal can be lubed when the cocking lever is opened. A drop of pellgunoil, ultralube or secret sauce works fine. Some other lubes work too.
The two breech seals can use a wipe of lube periodically.
The compression chamber seal is a packing seal and cannot be lubed. If the gun is ever disassembled this seal can be lubed at that time. Do not disassemble just to lube this seal. If it is not leaking, don't worry about this one. The inner seal can be lubed by putting a drop or two of pellgunoil in the transfer port in the frame(breech opened). Then close breech latch and dry fire gun. Then prop gun up so muzzle is lower than grip and this will allow the lube to flow to the seal.
The pivot points can be lubed with pellgunoil. I prefer to remove the cocking lever pins and apply some Beeman M2M moly paste to the pins. Other smaller pins can be lubed with a drop of oil.
I would lube the IZH about every 4000-5000 pellets or 5-6 months. A drop or two at each point is enough.
The barrel can be cleaned with a synthetic weedwacker cord and cotton flannel patches.
The gun comes with a spare set of seals but he inner seal does not come with the kit. You can get extra seals from Golden Toller, Mac-1 and maybe other places. Parts can be purchased from the importer in Florda.

Thanks alot. I printed off your message and will save it with my manual.
This gun is sweet and I want it to stay that way. Your info helps alot - looks like it doesn't need very much very often.
Good shooting, happy new year
