Steyr LP1P Take Up Adjustment?

Posted by Mark P. on July 17, 2001 at 01:29:54:
I'm a little confused by the 10P Files on this, so hopefully someone can help me out. Here's the deal. I have short fingers, to the point where my finger's position on the trigger changes during the 1st stage trigger pull. Is there a way to shorten the 1st stage pull? i.e., keep the trigger from extending as far forward as it is?

Unfortunately the adjustment that shortens first stage travel (the rearmost screw you can access with the grip still on) does not physically move the trigger shoe - it shortens up the first stage from the same shoe position.

That's what I was afraid of. Oh well. Time to think of a Plan B.

I had a similar problem with my LP5. I cured it by removing some wood from the back of the grip inletting. Depending on how much you move it you may also need to relieve the hole for the grip fixing bar and also various cutouts for the sight adjustment screw, breech lever etc. If you move it a lot then you may find that you have to alter the pivot position for the grip fixing bar (the bit that flops around that the grip screw goes into).

Mark,
I too have short fingers. I have an LP-1C. On the bottom of the grip the number 1 is stamped into the wood. I believe that that number is the size of the grip. It fits my hand very well. If you have a larger sized grip, replacing it with the smaller grip might be a good place to start.
I have the original trigger on the pistol. I bought one of the rifle triggers that some prefer on the Steyr, because it is a nice piece of work, and found that I could not move it rearward enough to work for me. Replaced the OEM trigger and problem solved
Go to the Hitchhikers guide that Warren wrote, and read the one on triggers. The trigger should break when the finger is at 90 degrees. If you can set the grip and trigger to do so, the first stage travel length will not be a problem.
I am not an expert, but I know several, who have been kind enough to share information. Hope this helps.
