BUCK PARSON

Buck grew up just across the road from Scott’s place.  When he was a teenager, he began helping Scott cut brush, work on cars, and help with the carpentry and plumbing as Scott built the house that now serves as both home and shop.  When Buck graduated high school in 2000, he went straight to work at Pilkington Competition, learning the trade of gunsmithing from Scott, specializing in Olympic-style firearms and air guns.

In 2001, Buck went on his first airplane ride, a Boeing 747 to Germany, where he continued his education, taking courses in gun repair at the factories of Feinwerbau, Walther, and Anschutz.  Since then, Buck has continued his education, working with the factory gunsmiths at these factories, as well as at Steyr, Pardini, and Morini at World Cip events held in the US.  In 2005, Buck was back in Europe, on his way to England to learn the diagnosis and repair of Hill Pumps.  Given they were already in the neighborhood, Buck and Scott went to the Eley factory down the motorway in Edmonton.  Then they carried onto Austria to visit Steyr and RIKA.  After several intense days of hands-on instruction in Steyr assembly details, Buck got to indulge his favorite hobby from back home: he went hunting.  Heading out with Steyr’s then-chief engineer, Karl Egger, Buck bagged a nice Roe buck, along with learning some German hunting traditions.

From there, Buck and Scott continued onto the World Cup in Munich, where Buck renewed his friendships with gunsmithing colleagues from factories around Europe and watched over their shoulders, absorbing as much information and learning as he could.

As Pilkington Competition’s gunsmith, Buck enjoys heading out and around to as many shooting matches as he can to meet the gunsmithing needs of the athletes.  Whether high school, JROTC matches, or Olympic tryouts, he is there with his tools, parts, and knowledge keeping all the competitors’ equipment in top condition.  In recent years, Buck has been the go-to guy for the gunsmithing needs of the athletes at the NCAA Rifle Championship as well.

Most recently, he was at the 2017 Munich World Cup to again spend time with all the factory technicians learning the latest tricks and updates.
