Bookmakers agree with the outcome of the departure

The last game day of the Bundesliga season this year took place last weekend. After that, it was clear: "Hertha" must go into relegation. The old girl's next opponent is Hamburger Sportverein, who has been fighting for a return to the first class since relegation in 2018. Despite the explosiveness of this game, the bookies agree on who will prevail in the elimination. Hertha BSC is already considered a big favorite. Bookmakers agree that the Berliners will win.

Hardly any game is as emotionally charged as the fight in the two elimination games at the end of every Bundesliga season. Hertha BSC was in their hands until the last day of play, but missed an opportunity to stay up because the capital lost a crucial game against Borussia Dortmund, even though a draw would have been enough for them to secure class. Оn this site you can cricket betting.

Decision in the first and second matches

While Hertha BSC suffered another defeat, VFB Stuttgart won the parallel game against 1. FC Köln. Thanks to this victory, the Swabians jumped up to 15th place and thus celebrated relegation. Now the old girl has to prove that she belongs to the top league. The team, led by coach Felix Magath, will get their first chance to do so on May 19 at 8:30 p.m. at Berlin's Olympic Stadium. The potentially fateful return match will also be played on May 23 at 20:30 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

For the 14th time since the reintroduction of relegation games, 16th place in the first division and third place in the second division will determine who gets the last starting spot for the 2022/23 Bundesliga season. This year, however, for the first time, the away goals rule, under which goals scored abroad were given more importance than goals at home, will be abolished. This rule has also been abolished in European competitions, so that if there is a tie after 90 minutes of the return match, extra time or even a penalty shootout is required.

What was decisive for the bookies' estimation was not the last performance of the two teams, but the likelihood of a second-division win. Only three times in the last 13 years has a Ligue 2 representative managed to rise to the bottom of the league. The last time Union Berlin achieved this was in 2018. Nevertheless, Hamburg Sportverein has a good chance to move up in the rankings, because the form of the team, which is coached by Tim Walter, has been impressive in the last few games.

Some arguments even speak directly in favor of an HSV win, because with a goal balance of 67:35 the club can show the best value from League 2. In addition, Hamburg even reached the semifinals of the German Cup and won five games in a row in the league. In addition, former Bundesliga player Dino has struggled to return to the top division since relegation in 2018. Never have you been as close to promotion as you were this season. This is the first time HSV has made it to at least a relegation spot.

Definitely don't underestimate HSV in Berlin, especially since the second-division team is traditionally eligible to play the decisive second game at home. Hertha's form curve is also headed downward again. They only briefly benefited from the coaching effect that began when old master Felix Magath took over the club after the departure of Typhoon Korkut. Hertha goes into the game with two losses in a row.

The first descent in ten years?

After two defeats in the most important games of the season, Hertha now faces its biggest challenge since relegation in 2012. After all, the old girl managed to get back on the upswing (as in 2010). Also encouraging is the example of 1. FC Köln, which was relegated last year, and this season even fought for entry to the European Cup.

Just before the first big game for Hertha, however, bad news came as striker Davy Selke was sidelined, as was Marton Dardai. The use of goalkeeper Marcel Lotka is also in question due to a broken nose and concussion. The rest of the team is now preparing to play at the training camp in Kinbaum.

Will Hertha hold out?

So now Hertha BSC must prove that not only the probability to stay in the league, but also the results. Nevertheless, given the number of absentees and recent performances, it seems rather surprising that the bookies are so unanimous in their predictions for this game. Whether Hertha stays in Ligue 1 or leaves, and whether the bookmakers were right, it will only be known in the return match on May 23.
