In 2021, Italians spent 19.4 billion in gaming and slots: boom in online gaming. To the Treasury 11.

Italians spend more and more in gaming and slots. In 2021 they dedicated 19.45 billion to games. More than half (11.40 billion) ended up in the coffers of the State in the form of taxes. According to the data, summarized in the Blue Book of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, the expenditure of Italians has increased by 2.42%compared to 19 billion the year before. Also up is the total volume of collection, that is, the set of bets ( 3.44% to 110.54 billion), and winnings ( 3.66% to 91.10 billion).

"In the reference period 2017-2019 - reads the Blue Book - the entire gaming sector has recorded a growing trend: 8.64% for collection, 10.08% for winnings, 2.42% for expenditure and 10.68% for the Treasury." The increase in revenue for the Treasury is mainly due to the substantial growth of online gaming, particularly in the field of card games and games of chance with fixed odds. The contribution of virtual slot machines goes from a collection of 12,866 million euros in 2020 to a collection of 15,194 million euros in 2021.

Just as in past years, in 2021 more than half (63.46%) of the tax revenue comes from slot machines, the rest from the Lottery (12.89%) and Lotto (10.53%) and other games (13.12%). The new document also examines the distribution of slots in Italy: in recent years the numbers have decreased, from 579,228 devices in 2015 to 418,491 in 2021.

As for online gaming, in 2021 attempts to access illegal websites amounted to 144.2 billion. 1,037 irregular websites were shut down.
