Not surprisingly, Viagra is Pfizer's most counterfeited drug, as proven by a study carried out by this laboratory in 2011 with more than 20 Internet portals that offered its purchase online. After a chemical analysis, it was observed that in 80 percent of the cases the drug that could be bought was fake, reports Ep.

In addition, the sale is launched thanks to the collaboration of the CVS/Pharmacy chain of pharmacies, which will make it possible to check the authenticity of all prescriptions. It will also be possible to carry out the sale through websites with the 'VIPPS' accreditation, a certificate that guarantees quality and confidentiality criteria.

"Every year there are almost 24 million searches for Viagra on the Internet, so with this initiative we offer patients with erectile dysfunction a legal alternative to buy it online and combat the distribution of counterfeit products," explained Victor Clavelli, head of Marketing for the company's Primary Care Business Unit.

In Spain, however, Viagra cannot be marketed on the Internet, as the law only allows the online sale of drugs that are not subject to medical prescription, sources from the Ministry of Health have told ABC.
