What about the attractiveness of online casinos in 2021?

Online casinos have grown steadily over the past years and almost decades - even without legal permission in Germany. Now, however, this permission is available. However, the state is significantly restricting in the course of this. Jackpots? Forbidden! Table games. Apparently not provided for. So the question we have to ask ourselves is whether the appeal has increased due to legality or decreased due to the elimination of features and games. After all, one thing has remained the same - for the time being, even under the new State Treaty on Gambling. No matter where you are in Germany, if you want, you can access an online casino.

How attractive are online casinos in 2021?

So we are concerned with the attractiveness of an online casino. Often, good looks are associated with this term. But where this comparison still holds true for a land-based casino, where ambiance is a major part of the experience, it's rather beside the point for a virtual gaming venue. Overview and ease of use are of course not unimportant. But apart from that, it's more the inner values that count. What does the Internet gaming house have to offer us? This refers to the type and number of games. In the following, we want to show where the attractiveness of online casinos has risen and where it has fallen in 2021. We are happy to refer to our test reports in this context.

That is why the attractiveness of online casinos has increased in 2021!

Actually, there is only one very thick reason why the attractiveness of online casinos might have increased in 2021. This refers to the new edition of the State Treaty on Gambling. Because since July 2021, Internet gambling houses are officially legal. All of them? No. Actually, they need a German license. But the licenses are still in process. Currently, at best, the authority knows which providers have applied for a license. But since the end of 2020, the toleration order has taken effect. No action will therefore be taken against virtual gaming halls that comply with the rules of the State Gambling Treaty. Why does the new legislation have a positive effect on the attractiveness of online casinos? Actually, it is logical. After all, those who previously did not dare to play the slot machines because they were worried about illegality now no longer need to hold back. However, the situation must be kept in mind.

Because the state is still busy with the licensing. In the coming weeks, the first concession is expected. At some point, the applications will be processed. And then there are still online casinos that are active in Germany, but not licensed here. These then operate de facto illegally on the market. Anyone who wants to continue to act seriously logs off there at this time. Or rather, the state will also take steps. At present, the Swiss model seems conceivable. Read more about it, here the state-owned casinos have been granted a license. All other providers are excluded from the market via a network block. In Germany, however, it is already clear that all online casinos can initially obtain a license - provided they comply with applicable law.

Opening of the market: since July, online casinos have been officially permitted. However, the individual case decisions are still missing. Which casino will get a license? Which virtual gambling house will be denied a license. However, anyone who currently plays in an online casino has nothing to fear.

That's why the attractiveness of online casinos has decreased in 2021!

Some games are now banned

Now we've gone into the argument for the increased attractiveness, long and wide. When it comes to whether the attractiveness has not rather decreased, we need to be a bit more focused. Let's start with the restriction of the game offers. Currently, customers are no longer offered jackpots. There are also no live games. This either alienates some customers or directs them to the land-based casinos.

Then there are other regulations, such as the deposit limit of 1,000 euros per month. While it seems reasonable at first glance and even too high in some circumstances, this is at least intended to prevent individuals from getting into excessive debt. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who can afford higher sums. If they are no longer involved in gambling to the same extent as before, this could reduce their motivation to gamble at casinos.

Furthermore, tax payment of 5.3 percent is required - simultaneously with sports betting. Sounds fair? However, some machines had a payout ratio of 98 percent. So with taxation, the operators would make a loss. Consequently, the legal gaming offer has been reduced in its chance of winning. After all, no one runs a business in order to make a loss on it. And because in the illegality further the used payout ratios are to be found, the attractiveness on the legal German market to play rather sank.

There are currently no licenses yet. Of course, the authority, which has just been established, cannot manage everything at once. But the planning for the establishment of the gambling authority got off to a slow start. It is not yet fully staffed. As a result, there is a lack of concessions, which can create uncertainty among players.

Uncertainty as a factor: Neither the state nor the gambling providers themselves, provide accurate information. Of course, the laws can be viewed online. Here, for example, is the State Gambling Treaty. But how many people take the trouble to search for the law and then read the relevant paragraphs.
